ALPENA — Arts, education, human services and literacy programs are just some of the areas touched by the most recent round of grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council (NEMYAC).

The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan (CFNEM) Board of Trustees recently approved $25,334 in a new round of youth-related NEMYAC grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties.

New NEMYAC grants are:

1. Alpena Montmorency Alcona Educational Service District – awarded $2,500 for the “Helping Diverse Learners” program;

2. Alcona Community Schools – awarded $1,000 for the Alcona Robotics Team Field Assembly;

3. Posen Consolidated Schools – awarded $1,500 to purchase Chromebooks for the elementary school;

4. Hillman Community Schools – awarded $1,000 for the Hillman High School Orchard project;

5. Art in the Loft – awarded $2,500 for the Pied Piper R.E.A.C.H. (Recognize Everyone’s Abilities and Creative Hearts) program;

6. Boys and Girls Club of Alpena – awarded $1,325 for the “Mindfulness Matter” project;

7. Child and Family Services of Northeast Michigan – awarded $1,366 for a developmental learning program;

8. Hillman Community Schools – awarded $1,304 for the Hillman High School Robotics Team;

9. Hillman Community Schools – awarded $603 for the “Hillman Travel Abroad” program;

10. Atlanta Community Schools – awarded $900 to purchase materials for a Resource Room for diverse learners;

11. Alcona Community Schools – awarded $800 to purchase new equipment for the high school’s weight room;

12. Mikado Township – awarded $807 for “No Child Without a Christmas”;

13. Besser Museum for Northeast Michigan – awarded $1,500 for the Season of Light: Star of Bethlehem planetarium show;

14. All Saints Catholic School – awarded $1,590 for their performing arts program;

15. South Bay Alpena – awarded $750 for the 45th Parallel Peter Pettalia Memorial Park;

16. Rogers City Area Schools – awarded $1,500 to purchase a yearbook poster printer;

17. St. Lutheran Church and School – awarded $1,000 to send students to Washington D.C.;

18. Iosco County Coats for Kids – awarded $500 to purchase coats, hats and gloves for Alcona County children;

19. Eastern National Forest Interpretive Association – awarded $300 for the “Smokey’s 75th Birthday” project;

20. Village of Lincoln – awarded $400 for the 2019 Lincoln Easter Egg Hunt;

21. Alpena Gymnastics – awarded $600 to purchase new panel mats;

22. Alpena Public Schools – awarded $589 for Summer Institute materials;

23. Posen Consolidated Schools – awarded $500 for the Posen High School Fishing Team;

24. Thunder Bay Theatre – awarded $500 for the 2019 Spring Educational Tour in Montmorency County.

The next deadline for NEMYAC Grants is Jan. 15. Community Impact Grant applications are also due on Jan. 15. Applications for both grant opportunities can be found at www.cfnem.org.

The Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council is made up of youth from across the CFNEM service area. These young people learn the importance of philanthropy and community service through the grantmaking process, gaining important leadership skills along the way. NEMYAC Grants are made possible through the Kellogg Youth Fund at the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan.
